Lost in Space

retro_rider55
Good Afternoon (PST); newbie, here. Thought I'd give this community a try. Born in 1955, watched LIS premier in '65. Never had a chance to meet any LIS cast/staff in person, but I did, at my very first SF Con (Jan.'77) during their banquet, sit at the table of Bill (now 'William') Malone, the then owner of Robby The Robot (also in attendance at this fete were Grace Lee Whitney, George Takei, David Gerrold, Harlan Ellison - and Robert & Virginia Heinlein. Lucky strike for a newbie fan's first time out).

I realize this may have been posted/dealt with/answered already in an earlier post here, but if you'll indulge me, I'd like as my first entry, to ask this question, if anyone might possibly know: There had (so rumor says) been a project in the works back in 2002, purportedly titled Lost In Space: The Journey Home, which was to have starred the remaining original cast members, but as I understand it, the sudden passing of Jonathan Harris later that year ended that hope. If it were true that a reunion/update movie had been planned, was there ever some manner of treatment/script completed for it? What was the general plotline, and I suppose, the one issue probably nagging fans everywhere, how would the absence of Guy Williams have been dealt with?

Again, I realize this may be utterly Jurrasic news by now, but I've been out of the loop for a while, so I'm just throwing it out there.

Thank you all for your indulgence and/or sufferance.

Malachi Throne (1928 - 2013) [Mar. 30th, 2013|11:59 pm]

Malachi Throne, who played the title role in "The Thief From Outer Space," passed away, a few weeks ago. The New York Times has their usual fine obit, as linked below. On a personal note, I always enjoyed Throne's acting and his appearance on LIS and elsewhere in the Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen (he was also in "Time Tunnel," I believe), so this one hurts.

Dick Tufeld, who voiced the Robot (in addition to being the series' narrator), passed away. Big Cartoon News has a good obituary, including commentary from co-star Bill Mumy. Below that, of course, is a YouTube video highlighting Tufeld's most famous phrase. Special thanks to Big Hollywood.

TV Tropes.org's "Lost In Space" entry [Nov. 22nd, 2011|10:45 pm]

For those unfamiliar, TV Tropes.org is a fascinating timesuck website that explores many a trope and writing device (and the applications, inversions, subversions and aversions thereof). At long last, there is an entry for "Lost In Space." It is quickly becoming a sizable reading, and hopefully will expand in the future. Click the link and read.

It has quite a few interesting fan theories, which will also be explored in the ensuing weeks and months. If I don't post again, have both a good night and a happy Thanksgiving.

Leonard Stone, who played Farnum B in "A Day At The Zoo" and "Space Beauty," passed on, recently. The New York Times has a decent obit, linked below:

I'll also link to his IMDB profile, if anyone is interested, having quite the filmography:

Title: Last Living Standing

Last Living Standing

Rating: PG-13
Summary: Robot always said "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!" But perhaps, instead of shouting "danger," he should have been whispering "tragedy."
What makes this fic worth reading: It's breathtaking.

Lost In Space currently re-airing on Me TV [Sep. 27th, 2011|12:13 am]

For those unfamiliar, Me TV is a somewhat new network that re-airs classic '50's-80's shows. Apparently, it now has the rights to "Lost In Space." (To my knowledge, it is the first time it has re-aired on American television since the Sci-Fi Channel, a decade ago.) Linked below is the site's LIS page and the standard Saturdays at 8:00 PM EST timeslot.

Glad to see the series become available to American viewers, again, for so many reasons. At any rate, prepare your weekend viewing plans accordingly.

Fanfiction: "If Only", chapter 2 [Aug. 25th, 2011|08:15 pm]

A sequel/tie-in to my first story. Both, especially the first are inspired by "The Ballad of William Robinson" and can be found here:

This is angst/tragedy and has a self-indulgent pairing of Don/Penny. It's unrequited though, just to let Don/Judy shippers know.;)

An IDAK remix video [Jul. 29th, 2011|08:04 pm]

Here is an incredibly amusing remix video, featuring the IDAK character from "Revolt of the Androids." A fitting tribute for the character who uttered the iconic phrase, "Crush, Kill, Destroy." Robot tropes haven't been the same without it. Enjoy.

YouTube apparently has a considerable amount of "Lost In Space"-related material, which I'll definitely be spotlighting and posting on in the weeks and months ahead. (Of course, feel free to post on such, as well. The more, the merrier, right?)

Are there are Don/(older) Penny fanfictions? I know it's not canon but I rather fancy it. Any links would be appreciated. (:
